Tuesday Sept. 15th, 2009

Today I started my day off settling in, checking to make sure all the books and materials were in from the day before. I took out some materials to get started on, one of them was "Design by Zumpano" and found out that the tiles that we were carrying were out dated. I put them out so that we could withdraw them from the catalog. I also was not able to find information on weather the material is sustainable or not.

I got back to the other materials and completed the protocol sheets on Mohawk Stonewalk, American Hardwood, and Ecosurfaces.

Mon - Sept. 14, 2009

Last week was a short week because of labor day. This week it going to be a full week of work. I made a phone call to Ceramics by Shaw. I did't get much information from them so it is going to have to hold off for a bit. I need to move on to other materials.

I am working on the Crossville Eco Cycle Protocol sheet. I researched the material and found the information i needed for it. The ceramics are made up of 50% of Feldspar 50% is made of various high quality light firing ball clays. This makes the fired body white, allowing clear, brilliant colors and through body construction, meaning the color goes all the way through the tile rather than a surface glaze application.

After finishing Crossville Eco-cycle protocol sheet, i started on Eco-friendly Flooring.

Wed - Sept. 9, 2009

I started working with Ceramics by Shaw. I called a couple of people about the product but did not get too far in my investigation. I will try later.

I am continuing my display work. Researching and designing. I have some ideas of how i want it too look, and some precedence that i am also looking at.

Alice Adjustable Chair by Bruce Marsh is something that i am looking at for inspiration because of the simplicity of the chair. He uses physics to come up with a chair that only has 3 parts without it falling over. I will be working on a display case for the Materials Library in the Gatewood Studio Arts Building at UNCG.

Sept. 8, 2009

This is my second day interning but my first full week. Its now time to get down to business. To start off I took some materials off the shelve to start entering the protocol sheets, and found it was difficult to start. I decided to come up with a way to make it easier for the other workers to start doing their protocol sheets. I emailed them to explain the organization process I came up with. From their I started on researching the products in my section.

August 31, 2009 - First day

My First day as an intern was not too eventful. I took the time to walk around the library and familiarized myself with everything. I looked at the books to see which design areas are where, looked through the materials at the kinds that we have.

Half way through the day I started on my design for the display product that I will be completing by the end of the semester. I research display cases, Natuzzi, and other precedents for inspiration for the product.

Internship

My internship is with UNCG's Interior Architecture department in the Materials Library. This is an opportunity for me to learn about sustainable products that are out there; It also is a chance for me to connect with reps. Talking to these reps are very informative to know more about the products and how they work in space.

My job entails making protocols sheets about each of the products that we have in the library along with products that are coming in, calling reps for information about their products as well as requesting more samples for the library. The protocol sheets are a great asset to the library because it gives students an opportunity to learn about the product, whether its good or bad. This means that I do a lot of research on the products to make sure they are what they say they are.

For the midterm, I chose to rearrange the library layout to make it more welcoming for the students and professors. I moved the desk closer to the door while moving the seating further back. This allows students to come in and know whom to talk to while being comfortable in the space.

My project for my internship is to design a display for the windows as well as a table for behind the desk. The display is showcase new product that we obtain. The table will act the same yet also is an area for working.
